The Master Program is established to attract individuals who want to develop their skills and capabilities within urban and landscape planning and design in the Subartic.
After concluding the Master Programme the candidate should have the following total learning outcome:
??? Comprehensive understanding of and systematic experience with concepts, tools and fields of practice inherent to landscape architecture and landscape urbanism.
??? Comprehensive understanding of the relevance of the planning and design of landscapes to the development of society.
??? Profound knowledge of and experience with how the discipline may work for a sustainable development of the Subarctic regions.
??? General and profound knowledge of Subarctic landscapes, biodiversity, and climates.
??? Knowledge of and experience with research and development within the discipline.
??? Ability to undertake independent analysis, planning and execution of landscape projects in various areas of the Subarctic.

4. semester DIPLOMA LABORATORIES (30 ECTS)
Individual and group tutoring
1st??? semester: ???Concepts for Subarctic landscapes??? gives students basic knowledge of Subartic environments and climates as well as knowledge of ecological systems and human made systems.
Studio includes introduction to representation tools. Individual project work is seminal. Theory course ???Landscape History and Theory??? gives extended knowledge of histories and theories of landscapes.
2nd semester: ???Urban ecologies in the north??? gives students extensive knowledge of Subarctic ecosystems, plant societies, water systems and how to integrate urban and ecological systems through ???landscape urbanism' as method and approach. Individual project work is seminal. Theory course ???Arctic Contexts and Ecosystem based Management??? gives them theoretical knowledge of ecosystem based vs traditional management methods, environmental changes, and infrastructural threats to environments.
3rd semester: Two alternative studios with corresponding theory courses are offered:
- ???Subarctic landscape urbanism??? gives student knowledge of and tools for the design for urban infrastructural systems and urban ecological systems as well as of settlement transformation. Individual project work and design training is seminal. Theory course ???Urban design strategies??? focuses on theories and models for urban design and social development.
- ???Territorial practices for the north??? is a more conceptual studio, giving students extensive knowledge of political, economic and social factors in Subarctic territories, and training them to conceive projects that identify and activate community based, industrial, and territorial potentials. Individual project work and design training is seminal. The theory course ???Advanced territorial strategies for local development??? focuses on international policies and economic and political history and northern colonialism.
The two studios will integrate pre-diploma session that help students in collaborations with supervisors to delimit and specify their diploma projects.
4th semester: Individual diploma work (master thesis). Individual and group supervision in DIPLOMA LABORATORIES.
Exams and evaluation Assessment
Assessment is based on written reports and presented project work from each semester.
Final evaluation is based on the presented project of the diploma semester

Re-examination If Failed any course the student have the right to a Re-examination within the following term.
Language Lectures, reading material, tutoring and exams are in English.
International exchange Students will able to spend the third semester at another University or AHO
