    Join our food and nutrition experts in exploring the links between diet and health, and searching for solutions to the food-related problems that society is facing today to help the generations of tomorrow.

    Explore the application of food marketing and nutritional science to food markets and consumers, diet, nutrition and health. Study topics such as:

    • the structure of the food industry (which represents the largest manufacturing base in Europe)
    • the links between diet and health
    • the challenges of securing a globally sustainable, safe and nutritious food system

    Also gain the critical and analytical skills required to assess the global food system from a social, economic, legal, technological, ethical, political and environmental perspective.

    Course Content

    Our degrees are divided into Stages. Each Stage lasts for an academic year and you need to complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each Stage.

    Please be aware that programme modules do change and therefore may differ for your year of entry.

    Stage 2

    Compulsory modules

    This Stage builds on the knowledge and skills developed in Stage 1. It explores and integrates the core concepts and applications of food marketing and nutrition, through a set of compulsory modules which place particular emphasis on the ‘food consumer’:

    All candidates are considered on an individual basis. If your qualifications are not listed here, please see our additional entry requirements web pages to find out which other qualifications are considered.

    - A Levels

    AAB-ABB including at least one science subject (preferably Biology or Chemistry) but excluding General Studies. Home Economics/Food Technology will be considered instead of Biology. Chemistry is preferred at A/AS level but not essential. Mathematics, and Chemistry or Dual Award Science, required at GCSE (minimum grade B) if not offered at A/AS level.

    - Scottish Qualifications

    AAABB-AABBB at Higher Grade including at least one science subject. Advanced Higher Biology and/or another science subject normally required. Chemistry desirable at Higher Grade but not essential.

    Alternatively, ABB at Advanced Higher Grade with at least one science subject, preferably biology or chemistry.

    - International Baccalaureate

    34-35 points preferably including Higher Level Biology at Grade 6 or above. Chemistry preferred at Higher Level but not essential. Mathematics and Chemistry required at Standard Level grade 5 or above.

    - Irish Leaving Certificate

    A1A1A1B1B - A1A1B1B1B at Higher Level, preferably including Chemistry/Biology, Mathematics and another science subject.

    - Access Qualifications

    At least 45 level 3 credits at Distinction. A unit in Biological Sciences is essential and units in Chemistry, Mathematics or Quantitative Methods desirable.

    - BTEC Level 5 HND

    Applicants will be considered on an individual basis.

    - BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (formerly BTEC National Diploma)

    A science-related subject with substantial biology and chemistry units at overall DDD-DDM.

    - Cambridge Pre-U

    D3, D3, M2 - D3, M2, M2 in Principal Subjects normally including Biology and another science subject. Chemistry is preferred as a principal subject, but not essential. GCSE Mathematics (minimum grade B) required if not offered as a principal subject.

    - PARTNERS - A Levels

    BBB including at least one science subject (preferably Biology or Chemistry) but excluding General Studies. Home Economics/Food Technology will be considered instead of Biology.
