    Planners need to be familiar with a wide range of issues and the degree provides a broad general education in all major areas of planning and urban design, including land use planning, social planning, economic planning, transport planning, environmental planning, professionalism and ethics, and environmental and planning law. Work experience is an important part of the program and means that students receive a hands-on education, opportunities to put their learning into practice and a head-start in terms of gaining on-the-job experience.

    Course Content

    Course Aims

    The Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning enables graduates to contribute towards making the world more liveable and sustainable through developing understanding and skills in a wide range of areas relating to place-making and land use planning. Work experience is an important part of the program.

    Learning Outcomes

    Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • demonstrate the ability to understand and apply planning knowledge appropriately, ethically and professionally and the capacity to exercise planning skills responsibly and with professionalism;
  • demonstrate understanding of the major principles and theories of planning and place-making, the role of planning and the challenges of contemporary social, environmental and governance issues in relation to planning;
  • demonstrate understanding of the social, cultural, environmental, economic, governance, design and legal aspects, challenges and implications of land use problems, and use this understanding to develop appropriate and ethical solutions, including through the development, implementation and review of land use plans and instruments;
  • demonstrate the ability to perform effectively, appropriately, ethically and professionally in a workplace environment;
  • demonstrate critical thinking skills, problem-solving ability and analytical capacity, group participation, team work, collaboration and communication skills and facility in a range of media including written, oral and graphical forms; and
  • demonstrate the ability to maintain and communicate a current and critical knowledge of planning through locating, evaluating and applying information from a variety of sources in an appropriate manner.

    USA requirements for international students

    Each university in the Unites States of America sets its own admission standards so there isn't the same criteria for all the students and the university can decide which applicants meet those standards. The fee for each application is between $35 to $100.

    For direct admission into undergraduate courses offered by the University of New England, international applicants must have completed an educational qualification considered to be at least equivalent to completion of Year 12 in Australia.

    A candidate shall be qualified for admission (see Admission Rule Undergraduate Policy).

    Assumed knowledge is any two units of English.
