A wide range of teaching techniques are employed, but with a strong emphasis on a practical, hands-on approach based on real projects. There are also plenty of opportunities for extra-curricular work, including working on our animated feature film in development, "Stina and the Wolf".

Course Content

Year 1

The content of the course mirrors many industrial processes and creative practices that we have discussed with our industrial partners both in film and games industries. You will begin the course by getting to grips with the software tools and editing packages which you will use throughout the course. You will also begin to build your own portfolio of work.
Core units in this year include:

· Foundation in 3D Modelling

· Foundations in Graphics

· Skills and Principles for Animation

· Visual Communication

· Multimedia language

Year 2

In this year you continue to develop your animation skills including rigging, environment modelling, character modelling and animating characters for games or film.
Core units in this year include:

· Ancilliary Animation and Software Skills Project

· Commercial Asset Production for Real Time

· Modelling Lighting for Computer Animation

· Business Communication

Year 3

There’s a range of options in your final year allowing for specialisation in the areas that interest you the most. You’ll also complete an individual project on a topic of your choice.

UK requirements for international applications

Universities in the United Kingdom use a centralized system of undergraduate application: University and College Admissions Service (UCAS). It is used by both domestic and international students. Only those who have previously studied at higher education level should apply. Applicants must have completed 1, 2 or 3 years (depending on academic profile) in Higher Education.

For year 1 and 2 entry applicants require English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 5.5 with no component score below 5.5. For year 3 entry applicants require English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.0 with no component score below 5.5.
